Friends of the Earth

Environmental pollution:

It is the presence in the environment of any agent (physicist, chemical or biological) or of a combination of several agents in places, forms and such concentrations that are or could be harmful to the health, to the safety or to the well-being of the population, or that could be harmful to the vegetable or animal life, or that prevent the habitual use of the properties and places of recreation and the possession of the same ones. The environmental pollution is also the incorporation to the bodies recipients of solid, liquid or gaseous substances or of mixtures of them, providing that they alter unfavorably the natural conditions of the same ones or that they could affect the health, the hygiene or the well-being of the public.

Large-scale effects

The high chimneys of the industries do not reduce the quantity of pollutants, simply they issue them to major height, reducing this way his concentration in situ. These pollutants can be transported to great distance and produce his adverse effects in very removed local areas where the emission took place. The pH or relative acidity of many lakes of aguadulce has seen altered up to such a point that they have remained destroyed entire populations of fish. In Europass they have observed these effects, and this way, for example, Sweden has seen affected the aptitude to sustain fish of many of his lakes. The emission of dioxide of sulphur and the subsequent formation of sulphuric acid can be also responsible for the assault suffered by the limestones and the marble to big distances.

The high chimneys of the industries do not reduce the quantity of
The increasing consumode coal and oil from ends of the decade of 1940 has led to concentrations every time major of carbon dioxide. The resultant greenhouse effect, which allows the entry of the solar power, but it reduces the reemission of infrared beams to the exterior space, generates a trend to the warming that might concern the global climate and lead to the partial thaw of the polar caps. It is conceivable that an increase of the cloudy cover or the absorption of the carbon dioxide for the oceans could put brake on the effect invernaderoantes of that it was coming near to the phase of the polar thaw. Nevertheless, the reports published in the decade of 1980 They indicate that the greenhouse effect is a fact and that the nations of the world should take measurements immediately to put solution.

Local measures:

 *Crear civil conscience.
*No to be hot to fell trees.
*Colocar the garbage in the places destined for such an end.
*Regular the service of urban bathroom.
*Controlar the use of fertilizers and pesticides.
*Los outlets of industries, homes and perfect that they contaminate rivers, to recycle his water then to meet it in the seas and oceans.
*Prevenir the spillages petróleros, gas, petrols and be precise; offering to him maintenance to the machines for such an end.
 *Controlar re-wash them miners.
*Reciclar objects (to create mas plants of multiple recycling).
 *Evitar the use of aerosols.

Classification of the pollutants:

Pollutants not degradables: They are those pollutants that do not decompose for natural processes. For example, the lead and the mercury are not degradables.
The best way of treating the pollutants not degradables (and those of slow degradation) is on one hand to prevent them from throwing itself to the environment and for other one recycling them or to turn them to to using. As soon as they are contaminating the water, the air or the soil, to treat them, or to eliminate them is very costly and, sometimes, impossibly.
Pollutants of slow or persistent degradation: They are those substances that get in the environment and that they need decades or even sometimes more time to degenerate.

Examples of pollutants of slow degradation or persistent sound the DDT and most of the plastic ones .
pollutants degradables or not persistent: The pollutants degradables or not persistent they decompose completely or diminish to acceptable levels by means of natural physical, chemical and biological processes.
Biodegradable pollutants: The chemical complex pollutants that decompose (metabolize) in simpler chemical compounds for the action of alive organisms (generally specialized bacteria) are named biodegradable pollutants.

Example of this type of pollution it is the human waste water in a river, which degenerate very rapidly for the bacteria, unless the pollutants join with major rapidity of what takes the process of decomposition.

Global warming:

Amento of the temperature of the Earth due to the use of fossil fuels and other industrial processes that take to a gas accumulation greenhouse (carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide and chlorfluorocarbons) in the atmosphere. From 1896 it is known that the carbon dioxide helps to prevent that the infrared beams escape to the space, which does that there is kept a relatively hot temperature of our planet (greenhouse effect). The question is if the increasing levels of carbon dioxide registered throughout last century will take to an increase of the global temperature, which might produce coastal floods (for raise of the level of the sea) and important climate changes, with serious implications for the agricultural productivity.

From 1850 there has taken place an average increase of the global temperature of more or less 1 °C, but this one might be only a part of a natural fluctuation. Such fluctuations have registered during dozens of thousands of years, and take place in cycles to shortly and long-term. The difficulty of distinguishing the emission of carbon dioxide of human origin of natives is one of the reasons for which so much it has been late in one legislated his control.

Nevertheless, the potential consequences of the global warming are so menacing that many prestigious scientists have urged the adoption of immediate measures and have requested the international cooperation to attack the problem.

The dioxide of carbon, of sulphur and other pollutants issued by the chimneys of the industries contribute to the air pollution. The carbon dioxide contributes to the global warming, and the dioxide of sulphur is the principal reason of the acid rain in the north and this of Europe and the North-East of North America. Other environmental problems include respiratory diseases, the poisoning lake and rivers and the hurts to the forests and the crops.

The perspectives of future, in what to the environment it refers are slightly clear. In spite of the economic and political changes, the interest and the worry for the environment still it is important. The quality of the air has improved, but they are dependent on solution and there need a coordinated action the problems of the acid rain, the chlorfluorocarbons, the loss of ozone and the enormous air pollution of this of Europe.

To reduce the environmental degradation and to save the habitat of the humanity, the companies must admit that the environment is finite. The specialists believe that, when the populations and his demands are growing, the idea of the continued growth must make way to a more rational use of the environment, but that this only can be achieved by a spectacular change of attitude on the part of the human species. The impact of the human species on the environment has been compared with the big catastrophes of the geological past of the Earth; independently of the attitude of the company with regard to the constant growth, the humanity must admit that to attack the environment puts in danger the survival of his own species.

Contaminacion Ambiental:

Efectos a gran escala
